Enrollment for Families Displaced by Fires

I’m hearing from residents that friends and family members have lost their homes in the fires and are bunking in Palos Verdes. Under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, PVPUSD provides immediate enrollment in school even if the required paperwork is not available (i.e. immunizations, proof of residency, school record) to “homeless” students, among other services.

Under the act, “homeless” includes:

• Lacking a regular, fixed and adequate nighttime residence

• "Temporarily doubled up" with family or friends due to a loss of housing and economic hardship

• Living in a shelter, hotel, or motel
