Bond Prioritization

We’ve got a PVPUSD board meeting tomorrow night at 5:30 pm. Bond prioritization is up for discussion. Please review the agenda item and submit comments online or in person. The proposed prioritization list is Attachment B to Item K2. We will review the prioritization list for each school site and provide feedback.

Throughout April, the district will host two town hall meetings to present the prioritization process and list to the broader community. The prioritization lists will also be shared with schools through their PTAs and staff meetings during April. Feedback collected from these community and school engagement sessions will be compiled and presented to the Board for final approval at the May 14th meeting.

Also on the agenda for tomorrow night are the following action/discussion items:

Bond Oversight

The first Measure SOS oversight committee meeting took place this evening. The meetings will be noticed and agendized just like regular board meetings, and are open for the public to attend. Audio recordings of the meetings are made and posted here.

Federal Investigation Into FERPA Violations

In personal/professional news, the United States Department of Education has opened an investigation into the California Department of Education for violations of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act pursuant to my complaint. The practice of school districts concealing information about children from their parents is in direct conflict with federal laws, and districts must bring their policies into compliance to avoid losing federal funds.

The United States Department of Education also issued a Dear Colleague Letter instructing school districts regarding their compliance obligations under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) and the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232h; 34 CFR Part 98). This is very welcome news for children and their parents.

As always, this is just one lady’s opinion. I don’t speak for the Board and no one else speaks for me.
