Supplemental Materials Policy Updated

Happy Monday!

Following months of discussion, two superintendent turnovers, and multiple public meetings on the topic, the Board approved revisions to the district’s supplemental materials policy and administrative regulation (6161.11). The policy is designed to ensure that any materials that are not part of approved curriculum are age-appropriate and taught in a balanced manner. To review the documents, go to Item K3 in the agenda for the January 24 meeting.

We also discussed our budget at length, including strategies to reduce spending and increase revenue in light of the declining numbers coming out of Newsom’s office. We spoke about maintaining the district’s 10% reserve policy. To watch the discussion, click here (budget begins at 4:10:20).

On another note, I started a substack called “A Republic, If You Can Keep It” where I’ll be discussing our nation’s founding documents in an accessible way. As our founding fathers warned, maintaining a constitutional republic requires the constant attention and devotion of all citizens. We will be holding a bi-weekly book club via Twitter Spaces, where there will be no stupid questions and we will discuss current events in the context of our founding documents. More to come there.
